Should Bute be given credit for fighting Froch in his hometown?

Image: Should Bute be given credit for fighting Froch in his hometown?By Scott Gilfoid: A lot of boxing fans and writers are making a big production about IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0, 24 KO’s) agreeing to fight former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KO’s) in his own home town at the Capital FM Arena, in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, UK, but I honestly don’t see anything special about what Bute is doing.

It’s not a big deal to where you got to drool over Bute deciding to fight an easy mark in his own home town, because Froch isn’t a threat to him. He sees that and that’s the reason Bute is willing to forget about all that cash he could make it he fought Froch in Montreal, Canada instead. The big bank comes from fighting in Canada, where Bute could easily fight in front of a crowd of 10,000+ fans and then scoop up the gate cash after the fight and haul it away in wheel barrows to the bank.

By agreeing to fight Froch in Nottingham, Bute is walking away from a lot of green stuff. That’s got to hurt to be sure, but he knows he’s got with Froch. It’s a clowning waiting to happen. This will be one Bute’s easier fights he’s had in a long time because Froch is so tailor made for Bute’s style of fighting. Bute really had no choice but to agree to take the fight in Nottingham, because Froch wasn’t going to go to Canada and risk finding himself getting jobbed out of a decision. He wouldn’t have because it would have been another loss for Froch, but not as bad as the one Andre Ward put on him last December. So Bute had little choice but to go to England to take the fight or else he’d have to look for an alternative to Froch. Besides the Dirrell brothers, there really aren’t any talented fighters left over for Bute to fight, but Bute and his promoter didn’t seem eager to take on the Dirrell brothers for some reason.

I don’t give Bute any credit for taking on Froch in the UK, because Froch is too vulnerable and is coming off a one-sided loss to Ward. It’s no big deal to me that Bute is fighting him there rather than in Canada.
