Pot calling the Kettle Black

Image: Pot calling the Kettle BlackBy Andrew Morrow: I recently wrote an article which dealt with perceived flaws in Floyd Mayweather’s record. I was saddened to see the comments that were written referring to Floyd as a coward. I for one believe that with that list of fighters in his record that he is far from being a coward. I shall now analyze the credentials of Manny’s record in a similar fashion.

Manny fans argue that Floyd only picked his opponents if he was guaranteed to beat them. I for one believe that Manny’s record is littered with opponents that were tailor made for him. I shall now take the opportunity to analyze the soft match making that Bob Arum has been responsible for.

Antonio Margarito: Manny won the WBC super welter weight title against this guy in Dallas. Manny fans argue that Floyd “ducked” him. Yet when Manny fought him he it was at a catch weight of 150 lbs and he had been knocked out cold by Shane Mosley two fights ago. Seemed to be a pretty safe fight for me

Shane Mosley: Manny fans commented on my previous article that he was shot when Floyd fought him, despite looking great against Margarito. Many fought him following a draw with Mora and a one sided loss to Floyd. How brave

Joshua Clottey: Fought him following a loss to Cotto. Nice little earner

Cotto: Weight drained at 145 lbs and he was coming off a shabby performance against Clottey and a vicious beat down by Margarito. Manny wouldn’t have went near him at the peak of his powers or at the full 147 lbs. Mayweather is now fighting him at the full 154 lb limit something which Manny refused to do

De la Hoya: One of his proudest moments, except that Oscar was so drained and Manny was actually heavier than him on the night. Oscar was also old and over the hill.

Marquez: Waited until JMM was 38 years old for rematch and he had to come up to 144 lbs from lightweight. Many thought JMM actually WON THE FIGHT.

So there you have it folks. Manny fans will gladly scoff at Floyd’s record. Perhaps these “fans” should read up on their own fighter’s record first. The phrase pot calling the kettle black springs to mind. Manny needs to step up his record against guys like Alvarez, Cotto at 154 lbs, Ortiz, Berto, Khan, Kirkland, Angulo, Martinez (catchweight) to improve that record. I do believe Bradley is a step up from recent opposition though.
