Image: Mayweather-Pacquiao: Best Of Both WorldsBy Jermill Pennington: Should the fight of the century between Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0-26 KOs) and Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2 -38 KOs) ever happen, it would literally be the best of both world in more ways than one. A clash of the titans, this era’s unquestioned 2 most accomplished fighters in the past decade. What is most intriguing to me is that it’s almost a plot from a comic book. Good vs. bad, the unlikely hero vs. the powerful, indestructible villain. But aside from all the added mystic, there’s a very good fight to be had.

This fight features the premier counter puncher, certainly this era’s best, and arguably one of the all-time greats. Against the all action, crowd pleasing guys who comes to knock his opponent out. The methodical technician vs. the punch thru a wall warrior. The guy who is never hit vs. the guy who gets hit, but continues to fight as if it never happened. The classic battle of brawler vs. counter puncher, this has always been a staple in boxing for decades. From Leonard-Duran, to Chavez-Whitaker, these battles are always up for debate on who’s style win eventually overwhelm the other. This is another fight that is certainly in the realm of all the prior battles that have come before it, And just as debatable as any.

Both fighter have plenty to lose, Maywheather will bring his cherished 0, and unblemished record into the ring, While Pacquiao will bring with him a nations pride. Both men have the hall of fame waiting for them in their retirement, both have accomplished more in the ring that only a hand full of fighters can compare, but still, there still seems to be a chapter in this book that has to be written before it concludes. Legions of fans have made it clear which side of the fence they are on, and who they think will win the fight. Never has there been this much build up to a fight that has seemingly become less likely to happen. Negotiations have failed, and only seem to be getting farther apart on terms and conditions. The constant back and forth between the two in negotiations, and in the media, leave fans wondering who’s truly at fault. This is the reason why some fans have had enough, and sight the two as the reason boxing is what some call “ a dying sport”. Unwilling to fight to see who is the better man, and the pride of a champion, like those of yesteryear. some say bad for the sport, this writer says, it is the sports life line until future stars emerge.

So whatever side of the fence you may be on, realize that this in some way is what life itself is about. Good vs. bad, the self proclaimed bad boy vs. the humble soft spoken man from overseas. The oldest plot in movies never gets old, and I am not ashamed to admit that I am enjoying every minute of it until the fight “hopefully” happens.
