Image: Mayweather-Cotto 24/7 to be televised on CNN starting on 4/14By Chris Williams: Boxing is going to get a huge boost with CNN agreeing to televise the four-part Mayweather-Cotto 24/7 reality television series to hype May 5th fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Although the four part series has been given a late night airing at midnight ET/PT, it will still be seen by a ton of people who will be still wide awake given that the series will be shown on Saturday night.

The first Mayweather-Cotto 24/7 program will air on April 14th at midnight ET/PT, and then second on April 21st midnight ET/PT, the third on April 28th ET/PT and the finale episode will take place a night before the fight on May 4th midnight ET/PT.

This is big news for boxing, because the Mayweather-Cotto 24/7 series will be seen by a lot of casual boxing fans and other people who haven’t seen much boxing because of the fights rarely being televised on non-premium channels. In addition, the Mayweather-Cotto 24/7 series will also be shown on HBO with the replays being televised by CNN. It’s all good.

This is a perfect showcase for Mayweather and his family, because they make for good television due to their spontaneity and larger than life personality’s. Unlike with the Manny Pacquiao 24/7 series in recent years, the cameras can be focused more on Floyd himself rather than the outside players like trainers, strength coaches and hangers on, because Mayweather is quite natural and interesting to watch. He can carry the show all by himself without the extra people getting in the way and boring people with their long, boring monologues about this and that.

This will be Mayweather’s reality show and he’s going to be carrying the load on his own, because Cotto has no stage presence is a rather quiet and insular type. Hopefully, the HBO television crew focus mostly on Cotto’s training and less on interviews because it’s incredibly boring to listen to him talk. They need Cotto to be doing something physical to make it interesting for the viewers at home. They might need to drag out his best friend to keep the interest during some of the shoots.
