Froch: Maybe Bute sees me as the easier option than Andre Ward

Image: Froch: Maybe Bute sees me as the easier option than Andre WardBy Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch spelled it out to IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute recently in an interview saying he felt that Bute chose him rather than WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward because Bute may see him as the easier mark of the two. Froch is dead right. Of course, Bute choose Froch because he’s the easier option. I mean, who wants to fight the talented Ward right now? He’s beating guys left and right and making them look bad. Do you think Bute wants a piece of that?

Froch said this in an interview at L’ Antichambre on RDS “Nobody wants to fight Andre Ward. He’s awkward, he knows how to spoil a fight…Maybe in the back of his [Bute] mind, he maybe sees me as the easier option [compared to Ward.”

So true, so true. Ward is the best right now and we’re trying to figure out who’s second best. It comes down the the Dirrell brothers, Bute and Froch. I guess you could throw in Adonis Stevenson in the mix, but I don’t see him beating any of those guys and he’d like fall flat against some of the other contenders in the division.

Froch and Bute will be fighting on May 26th in the Nottingham Arena in Nottingham, UK. This will be hometown advantage for Froch, as he’s a Nottingham resident. Froch thinks that the hometown advantage will really favor him in this fight because the crowd will be cheering loudly for everything he does whether on offense or defense. Froch thinks this will be a huge factor in the fight, but I doubt it. Andre Dirrell was able to dominate Froch while fighting him in Nottingham, and I suppose Bute can do about the same if he comes to fight.

I like how Froch tried to explain away his one-sided loss to Ward last December, saying “When you elite fighters, you win some you lose some. Look at Sugar Ray Leonard, and Muhammad Ali…If you don’t have a legacy in the sport. I’m in the sport to be a legend..The loss to Andre Ward means nothing to me. He’s not my kind of fighter; he’s not my kind of man.The rematch would be a different result. I’d approach it with different tactics.”

Is Froch kidding? Who cares if Ward isn’t his kind of man. What does that have to do with anything? The fact of the matter is Froch got royally spanked by Ward and all this mumbo jumbo about Ward not being his kind of many is neither here nor there. I’m sure Froch isn’t Ward’s kind of man, but who cares about that? Froch is really reaching for excuses to rationalize his feelings about his whipping. Just take it like a man and quit flapping your gums, Froch.
