Image: Chisora can still fight outside of the UK; he's not bannedBy William Mackay: Frank Warren, the promoter for former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora, made it a point to say that his fighter Chisora has had his boxing license revoked by the British Boxing Board of Control, but he’s not banned from boxing. Warren prefers that Chisora fight in Britain.

Warren told the telegraph.co.uk “I think he will box again. This is what the guy does for a living. We have to see where we are, but I’m sure in time Dereck Chisora will fight again, The fact is, his license being withdrawn means he is not banned anywhere else from boxing, but that is not the point. The point is he is British and he wants to box in Britain.”

I can see how it would be important for Chisora to stay in the UK to fight rather than fighting outside of the country. At 28, it might take Chisora a number of years to build a fan base if he were to start all over from scratch. There’s also the issue of what happens with his fights in terms of television. It’s unknown whether Chisora’s fights would be televised on BoxNation if he’s no longer fighting in the UK. I suppose they could but it would be strange for Chisora’s fights to be piped into the UK despite his boxing license having been revoked by the BBBofC.

The BBBofC did Chisora no favors by taking his boxing license away for an indefinite period of time. With something like that you don’t have a set date to work with and plan around. It just leaves the fighter hanging on and waiting. It seems unfair because Chisora could end up waiting forever in theory and waste the remainder of his career. With an actual ban for a period of time, Chisora could make a decision to wait it out or fight out of the country.
