By Frank Boileau: According to the Montreal based newspaper “Le Journal de Montréal”, Yvon Michel (Pascal’s promoter) and Don King are back at the negotiation table regarding a possible clash between Tavoris Cloud and Jean Pascal. An unrevealed source told the newspaper that the fight could happen in beautiful Montreal next July.

Pascal himself has confirmed the new but he doesn’t want to address the situation until Cloud sings a contract. He has also mentioned that his camp is having talks with Gabriel Campillo.

Now even if Campillo is coming from a great performance, a controversial lost by decision against Cloud, a fight with Tavoris Cloud seems much more appealing for GYM (Groupe Yvon Michel). The American fighter holds the IBF belts and he has already made a few appearances on HBO. So I guess a Pascal-Cloud championship fight would be an easy sell to a major network. Plus a clash between Pascal and Cloud has the potential to be a very explosive match-up. Last attempt to make this fight happen failed because Don King wanted “options” on Jean Pascal in case he wins. Pascal’s people have made it very clear that wasn’t a possibility.

I think Pascal would be a second time world champion if this bout takes place. Cloud’s very active and we all know he’s powerful but he has to set up. That’s why he had so much trouble with Campillo who is a very mobile fighter. So is Jean Pascal. I think Campillo has exposed Cloud a little bit. We all remember how Pascal was effective against Chad Dawson with his foot work and sporadic explosions.

I think Pascal’s speed and mobility wins a very competitive fight.

Now if the fights gets made and if “Bad” Chad can beat Hopkins… We could very well end up with a great unification fight next fall! A rematch between Pascal and Dawson. But that’s a lot of “ifs”.
