Image: Quigg vs. Arthur tonight: Frampton looms as potential opponent for the winnerBy Scott Gilfoid: British super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg 23-0, 16 KO’s) mixes it up tonight against the recently retired Jamie Arthur (18-5, 4 KO’s) in a stay busy test for Quigg at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton, lanchashire, UK.

Quigg needs to win this fight and look good because they’re setting it up for him to look good by putting him in with the 32-year-old Arthur rather than someone that could probably beat him like Rendall Munroe, who happens to be fighting on the undercard tonight in an eight round bout against Jose Saez.

Commonwealth super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (12-0, 8 Ko’s) will be watching the Quigg-Arthur fight with great interest, because he wants to fight to him next. I doubt that Frampton will get that chance because it looks like they want to let that fight build momentum at this point rather than agreeing to face Frampton and then likely wiping him out.

I personally don’t care for that fight. The guy who should be fighting Quigg is Munroe, and no one else. Frampton needs more seasoning and should fight another 10 to 15 times before he’s put in with Quigg, if he’s still the British super bantamweight champion by then.

Quigg stopped Jason Booth in the 7th round last October in the biggest win of Quigg’s five-year pro career. However, I’m not so certain that Quigg could beat a prime Booth, who is 34-years-old now had had lost two out of his last three fights by the time he Quigg got him. I’d like to see Quigg when he’s 34 face a young 23-year-old and see how he does. My guess is Quigg would get beaten just as Booth did.

Anyway, Quigg will beat Arthur tonight but so what? The guy is made for him and doesn’t stand a chance in this fight. I’d like to see Quigg step it up after this and face Munroe, followed by WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux or WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiako Nishioka. Munroe got totally spanked by in October 2010 in a one-sided 12 round decision loss that was almost comical in the one-sided nature of the fight.
