Image: Price still waiting for Fury to respond to offer; Thursday is the deadlineBy Scott Gilfoid: Frank Maloney, the promoter for unbeaten heavyweight prospect David Price (12-0, 10 KO’s), made a formal offer to British heavyweight champion Tyson Fury for a fight that they’d like to see happen in May.

Maloney reportedly gave Fury and his promoter a Thursday deadline to response to his offer. It’s unclear what happens after that, because Fury is the champion Price is just the challenger and not in the position to really be giving deadlines and such. It sounds kind of ridiculous. Tomorrow will come and Fury will likely have not responded to this so-called deadline.

I don’t know if he’s going to defend the strap, but I don’t blame him if he doesn’t. No money in fighting Price whatsoever. Fury should ignore the guy, and toss the British title. Fury will still have the Commonwealth strap and can defend that one until he gets a title shot against one of the Klitschko brothers in 2012 or 2013.

Someone will beat Price eventually when he finally one day gets matched against a big puncher. He’s been carefully maneuvered around sluggers since he turned pro, but you can’t make a career out of pitting him against guys that can’t punch their way through a wet paper bag.

As soon as Price faces anyone with power, that’ll likely be the end of him. He’ll get knocked out badly will have to rebuild for a couple of years before he starts the process again. I see him as someone like Andrew Golota; a big heavyweight that beats some of lower level guys and gets people excited about his potential but then gets beaten when he faces someone halfway decent that can punch.

Maloney is in a big hurry to try and get the Fury fight, but he needs to move on and look for a world title contender like Odlanier Solis, Samuel Peter or Bermane Stiverne. Let’s see what Price can do against one of those guys. My guess is he gets knocked out.
