Pacquiao needs to dump Ariza

Image: Pacquiao needs to dump ArizaBy Chris Williams: It’s pretty obvious that Manny Pacquiao’s wheels are starting to go on him. I don’t know but maybe all of his leg problems are the fault of his strength and conditioning trainer Alex Ariza, who puts Pacquiao through a ton of excruciatingly painful exercises during each training camp. The magic between Ariza and Pacquiao isn’t working anymore from the looks of it. Pacquiao may be experiencing diminishing returns on the strength & conditioning that Ariza puts him through. I guess it’s time to dump Ariza and quick.

Since Pacquiao’s wheels have been giving him problems for the past four to five fights, it seems that Ariza’s strength exercises could be hurting Pacquiao rather than helping him. Pacquiao doesn’t need his legs ceasing up on him in his fights because he’s getting old now and it’s best that he keep winning until Floyd Mayweather Jr. faces him at least.

But I think we may see Pacquiao’s leg problems getting worse before they get better in the future unless he makes some changes now. So, my solution to the problem is for Pacquiao to lose Ariza immediately. Pacquiao doesn’t have to necessarily fire the guy.

I mean, maybe he can keep him on the payroll as advisor #2 behind Michael Koncz, the advisor #1. Ariza could help Pacquiao in that capacity as far as giving advice for this or that, but I think Pacquiao needs to get rid of him because if Pacquiao is having leg problems that’s probably because of the training, if not the age.

While Pacquiao is at it, he needs to clean house by dumping his trainer Freddie Roach and look for someone that can teach him some defense. It’s a crime how raw and amateurish Pacquiao still looks after all these years with Roach. As far as I can tell, the only thing I can see that Roach taught Pacquiao is how to throw a right hook and that roll under thing that Roach is always going over with all of his fighters.

Pacquiao can certainly do better than that by looking towards maybe one of these excellent Cuban trainers like the one that Miguel Cotto recently signed on. Pacquiao needs a younger, more able-bodied trainer that can teach him new stuff.

I think he’s learned all he can from Roach, so it’s time to get someone new. Okay, so Roach goes and so does Ariza. Pacquiao also needs to get rid of all those hangers on types just filling space around him. He doesn’t need those guys either. I’d clear out the whole room shepherd them out of there all at once. Pacquiao doesn’t need the distractions.
