This is the fight that was expected for Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum to make, as Bradley is one of his Top Rank stable fighters and it was an easy fight for Arum to make.

Along with this fight, Arum has made an offer to Lamont Peterson, the IBF/WBA light welterweight champion, and Juan Manuel Marquez for them to fight on April 14th at the Cowboy’s Stadium in Arlington, Texas, as part of a four fighter tournament with Pacquiao-Bradley being the other two fighters in the tournament. The winner of these two fights will meet up in November in the finals. This also means that Pacquiao won’t be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2012 unless Pacquiao loses to Bradley on June 9th. Most likely Pacquiao won’t, and he’ll move forward to a fight against the winner of the Marquez-Peterson fight, if they both agree on the April 14th offer from Arum.

Pacquiao had several better offers for fights against Mayweather Jr., Marquez and Miguel Cotto, but one by one they were eliminated for one reason or another. The Cotto fight seemed like the most doable one of the bunch but Pacquiao wouldn’t agree to the small catchweight of 150lbs that Cotto was asking for before he’s agree to fight him.

Pacquiao wanted Cotto to drain all the way down to 147 instead of meeting him at the halfway point between Cotto’s fight weight of 154 and Pacquiao’s fighting weight of 147. By failing to negotiate this small issue with Cotto, it made the fight impossible to make and now leaves Pacquiao facing Bradley in a fight that will likely make a lot less money than the Cotto fight.
