Image: Moses has the power stop Burns on March 10thBy Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (33-2, 9 KO’s) may find his one title reign end next month on March 10th against #4 WBO ranked contender Paulus Moses (28-1, 19 KO’s) at the Braehead Arena in Glascow, Scotland. Moses, 33, can win this fight as long as he comes out firing power shots early and often.

Moses can’t hold back because it’s probably fair to say that they won’t likely give him a decision in Scotland unless he knocks Burns down four or fives times in the fight. He’s just got a really tough task in trying to earn a decision over there, because he’s the visiting fighter and I can’t see them ever giving him the decision in a million years. I saw Burns win a questionable decision against Michael Katsidis in his last fight in the UK, and I had Katsidis winning that fight nine rounds to three in a fairly easy win. It was one of the worst decisions I think ever seen before in the sport, but Katsidis should have known better than to agree to fight Burns in the UK rather than Australia or a neutral venue.

In looking at some of Moses’ recent fights I was greatly impressed with what I saw from him. He’s got a superb left hook, a powerful jab a crushing right hand that he likes to throw. What I like about Moses is that he doesn’t show his power with every punches, but rather he tends to load up every so often with big left hooks and right hands that catch his opponents off guard not expecting his brutal power. I imagine Moses will do the same thing against Burns by lulling him to a feeling of safety by throwing light punches until he least suspects it and then lowering the boom on him with a big shots.
