By Sean McDaniel: Enzo Maccarinelli (34-5, 27 KO’s) picked up his second consecutive early win with a 2nd round stoppage victory over 37-year-old former Irish super middleweight champion Ciaran Healy (13-18-1, 4 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom.

In the 2nd round, Maccarinelli, 31, knocked Healy down twice with body shots and was in the process of trying to finish him off when Healy’s corner threw in the towel to have the fight halted. Referee Wynford Jones officially stopped the fight at 2:52 of the 2nd round.

Maccarinelli was just too powerful for Healy and his body punching was as deadly as ever. Maccarinelli has got to be easily the best body puncher in either the light heavyweight or cruiserweight divisions. If he could just do something to protect his chin, he’d be a champion again in no time.

In the 1st round, Maccarinelli came out throwing jabs but quickly started hammering Healy with left hooks to his flabby belly. Healy attempted some pawing shots, but there was little power on them. Maccarinelli nailed Healy with a hard 1-2 combination followed by a big left hook to Healy’s midsection. Maccarinelli looked like he wanted to end the fight right there in the 1st round. Maccarinelli continued to pump in body shots from the outside as the round ended.

Maccarinelli came on strong in the 2nd round, tagging Healy with a powerful left to the body that put Healy down on the canvas. Healy got back to his feet and after the action was resumed, he was quickly sent down again, this time from a hard right to the midsection. To his credit, Healy got up and continued to try and fight his way out of the round. Maccarinelli then tagged with a low shot below the belt but thankfully he didn’t hit the deck. Maccarinelli continued to press the attack until Healy’s team threw in the white towel with only eight seconds left in the round.
