Cotto didn’t ask Mayweather for a new arena, a 50-50 split or a catchweight – what class!

Cotto didn’t cry for a new outdoor arena to be built before he’d agree to fight, didn’t insist on a 50-50 purse split, and didn’t ask for some kind of catchweight.

Cotto was pure class in the negotiations, which resulted in the fight being put together during a short two week period. This is so good for Mayweather to be dealing with guys that actually are eager to make the fight instead of ones that set up obstacles that prevent it from being made.

Mayweather-Cotto is going to be a huge fight and likely bring in much better pay per view numbers than any of Pacquiao’s previous fights. This is going to be the first time since Mayweather fought Oscar De La Hoya in 2007, that he has taken on a fighter that is a huge PPV star like himself. Do you know what this means? It means that their fight is going to draw superb numbers on PPV and we could see figures close to 2 million buys.

Mayweather-De la Hoya drew 2.4 million buys, and Evander Holyfield vs. Mike Tyson II hauled in 1.99 million buys. Those two are the highest PPV totals ever for a boxing event. However, I can see Mayweather-Cotto coming in at around 2 million buys to make it the second highest PPV event in boxing history.

I don’t think it’ll touch the Mayweather vs. De La Hoya numbers because De La Hoya was a really huge draw and it was a bigger fight than Cotto-Mayweather, but I can still see it coming in at 2 million. Cotto and Mayweather will be making money hand over fist if they can get 2 million buys, and I think it’s definitely possible.
