Image: Chisora should be banned, says fighter bitten by him in 2009 boutBy Sean McDaniel: It seems like Dereck Chisora (15-3, 9 KO’s) may be in hot water for his recent behavior before, during and after his fight against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko last weekend and on Friday of last week due to Chisora’s brawl with David Haye, as well as some other extracurricular activities that went on before the fight. The problems could result in Chisora being banned from boxing by the British Boxing Board of Control. Journeyman Paul Butlin, who Chisora bit in a May 2009 fight, feels Chisora should be banned for at least two years.

Butlin told thesun.co.uk “Butlin said: “The Board have to do something. If they don’t come down hard on him there will be more and more problems because boxers will think it’s OK to behave like that. They have to ban him for a couple of years at least. They banned him for four months for biting me and his behaviour keeps getting worse…He never apologized for biting my ear.”

In the course of two days, Chisora slapped Vitali during the weigh-in on Friday; attempted to attack Vitali as he entered the ring for the fight and had to be restrained by people; spat water in Vitali’s brother face in the ring, and then later brawled with former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in the post fight press conference where Chisora was heard talking about wanting to shoot Haye.

The weird thing about the Chisora-Butlin fight was that Chisora wasn’t disqualified by referee Dave Parris. Biting an opponent seems to be a fairly cut and dried case were a fighter needs to be immediately disqualified, but Chisora was allowed to continue fighting and went on to win an eight round points decision in a one-sided fight. The biting by Chisora seemed unnecessary at the time because Butlin really wasn’t throwing a lot back at him and it was a one-sided fight from start to finish for the most part.

Butlin said that Chisora later told the papers he bit Butlin because “he was bored.”

If the British Boxing Board of Control ask Butlin for help in their investigation of Chisora, he says he’ll assist them, as he wants to see Chisora banned.
