Brook doesn’t gain much from beating Hatton

Image: Brook doesn't gain much from beating HattonBy Scott Gilfoid: Eight years as a pro and 26 fights under his belt and undefeated welterweight contender Kell Brook (26-0, 18 KO’s) is just now facing Matthew Hatton (42-5-2, 16 KO’s) in yet another one of the 25-year-old Brooks’ many stay busy fights on March 17th at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield. Yorkshire, UK. Brook is one of those guys just seems to continue to face fodder time and time again no matter what.

He was supposed to, after years of facing mediocre opposition, to be finally facing a big named opponent for his next fight. Instead of big named opponent, we got Brook fighting the 30-year-old Matthew Hatton in a pointless fight. Yeah, I known Hatton is technically a contender as he’s ranked #9 by the WBA, but I don’t see him as even being ranked in the top 20. He’s more of a B level fighter as far as I’m concerned and Brook is going to beat him and beat him bad next month. But what gets me is what on earth is Brook hoping to accomplish facing Hatton other than getting a nice little payday?

Why doesn’t Brook continue to face guys that will help him improve rather than punching bags like Hatton? I don’t see any point in this fight. Hatton has already been easily beaten by Craig Watson and Saul Alvarez, so there’s no point in Brook facing him. Brook should be fighting the guys that beat Hatton rateher than Hatton himself. I’d rather see Brook fight guys that could give him a test like Victor Ortiz, Jan Zaveck, Thomas Dulorme, Randall Bailey and Selcuk Aydin.

Those guys could really give Brook a major test and I could see at least four of them knocking Brook out. I don’t see Brook in their class, but I guess that’s probably why Brook is fighting Hatton rather than those guys. Maybe in another seven years Brook will be ready to fight Dmitriy Salita. I just hope Brook never gets a title because I’d hate to see him fighting weak opposition as a champion like the guys he’s been fighting without a belt.

If Brook beats Hatton badly on March 17th, he won’t get any credit because Hatton is so badly flawed and has already been beaten on five occasions.
