Image: Arreola will have problems against Molina if he can't get him out of thereBy Allan Fox: We could see Chris Arreola (34-2, 29 KO’s) get out-boxed by the 6’5” Eric Molina (18-1, 14 KO’s) on February 18th in their fight at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Arreola, 30, is facing #11 WBC ranked heavyweight contender Molina in an important fight to keep busy while he waits for a shot against one of the Klitschko brothers in 2013. Arreola has faced weak 2nd tier opposition since losing to Tomasz Adamek in 2010. He obviously had to step it up a little because his dreadful opposition is hurting his ability to improve and attract new fans.

That’s where Molina comes in. He’s good enough to give Arreola problems but hopefully not too good to actually beat him. However, you can’t really be sure what Molina is capable of because he’s still improving with the help of heavyweight Oliver McCall and he could pull off a big upset on February 18th by beating Arreola by a points decision.

It’s certainly possible because Arreola is very slow and his boxing skills are limited. Molina will have at least a couple inches height advantage over Arreola, and possible as much three inches.

Arreola is listed as 6’4”, but he looked shorter than the 6’2” Tomasz Adamek in their fight and appeared to be at least five to six inches shorter than the 6’7” Vitali Klitschko in his loss to him in 2009.

Molina will be using his jab and looking to keep Molina stuck on the outside where he’s fairly harmless. Molina’s right hand isn’t as good as Arreola’s, but it’s powerful enough to do some damage if he can land it often enough.

Arreola isn’t a counter puncher, so Molina won’t have to worry about having to pay for anything he lands in this fight. He’s just got to make sure that he’s busy enough to earn a decision because Arreola will be the big name on the card and will likely get the judge’s decision if it’s close.
