Fightnews are reporting that Team Rubio spoke to WBC president about CHavez Jr. failing to be drug tested and he allegedly said “We forgot.” That’s kind of a lame excuse if it is true, because it would seem to indicate that Chavez Jr. isn’t going to have to come back and be tested for performance enhancing drugs, which doesn’t make sense because there are rules in place that state all fighters must take the drug testing post fight. Drug testing is mandated by the boxing commission and failure to submit to tests can lead to a fighter being stripped of his title.

Some of Chavez’s fans see this as sour grapes on Team Rubio’s part and feel he should just accept that he was beaten. Maybe they don’t quite understand the importance of drug testing and why they’re in place. If you were the one that were given a rare title shot and the fighter that you lost to had a previous history of testing positive for a diuretic, Furosemide, than you would probably be very concerned that Chavez Jr. failed to take the post fight drug test. Chavez Jr. tested positive for the water-ridding drug Furosemide three years ago for his fight against Troy Rowland.

So the big question is will the WBC strip Chavez Jr. of his title if he did indeed fail to submit to the drug testing or will Chavez Jr. be allowed to skip the testing? The WBC will have to make a decision on this because no doubt Team Rubio will appeal the loss to the Texas State Athletic Commission as well as to the WBC.
