Image: Vitali picks safe choice in Chisora for mismatch on 2/18By Scott Gilfoid: You know something isn’t right when a fighter who has lost two out of his last three fights gets a world title shot off of that kind of pitiful record. Dereck Chisora (15-2, 9 KO’s) in this case is the lucky guy that gets to fight WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (43-2, 40 KO’s) on February 18th at the Olyphialle in Munich, Germany.

If that’s not cherry picking on Vitali’s part I don’t know what is. Chisora reminds me of a poor man’s Chris Arreola. He doesn’t have Arreola’s 6’4” Size and massive power in both hands nor does he have Arreola’s high work rate. Chisora is like Arreola at 60 percent capacity and I still can’t believe that Vitali has chosen to fight this guy.

When was the last time a heavyweight champion chose a fighter that was coming off of a loss to fight for a world title? I honestly can’t remember. And when was the last time a heavyweight champion chose to defend his title against a fighter that had lost two out of his last three fights?

Heck, Chisora wasn’t even ranked in the top by any of the bodies at the time Vitali hand-picked him for this fight. The World Boxing Council has since given Vitali convenient cover by positioning Chisora at the bottom of the barrel at No.15. That’s still selecting from the bottom and it’s pathetic.

Chisora was totally schooled by the completely green Tyson Fury last year in a one-sided 12 round decision loss. Chisora couldn’t do a thing against Fury in that fight and looked out of his class. That fight was a clear example that Chisora couldn’t cut at t world level. After beating some guy I’ve never even heard of by the name of Remigijus Ziausys in his next fight, Chisora turned around and fought another heavyweight contender in Robert Helenius. And once again, Helenius lost, but what made this so much worse is that Helenius fought with a cracked bone in his right hand from the 2nd round on and yet he still fought well enough to earn a 12 round decision.

I don’t mind Vitali scraping the bottom of the barrel for his fights every now and then, but god, man, at least pick someone who’s won his last fight for goodness sakes. I’m really starting to lose respect for Vitali after this low move.
