Here are the guys that Tarver wants in 2012 including my thoughts on whether he’ll get those fights:

Wladimir Klitschko: It’s nice to have goals but Tarver’s wishes for 2012 are unattainable I have to say. He won’t get Wladimir, so Tarver is going to have to wait to get a little older if that fight is going to happen. Wladimir already has a full slate of older fighters on his schedule with a fight against 39-year-old Jean Marc Mormeck on March 3rd, and then a mandatory defense of his International Boxing Federation title after that against 40-year-old Tony Thompson. Those fights will pretty much take a big chunk of 2012 for Wladimir. He could possibly get a third fight for 2012 if he avoids injury, which at this point is highly unlikely give Wladimir’s three canceled/postponed fights in the last year. But with his last defense of 2012, there’s talk of Wladimir defending his belt against Tomasz Adamek in a big money fight that could take place in Poland or Germany. Believe me, a fight against Adamek is a much bigger fight than Wladimir facing 43-year-old Tarver, who only fought once in 2011. At this point Tarver is a part-time boxer and just isn’t keeping busy enough to stay relevant.

David Haye: Tarver will never ever get a fight against Haye, not this year, the year after or ever. Haye is only looking to cash out at this point against the Klitschkos in a fight that will sell out a huge arena in England or Germany. Unfortunately, a fight between Haye and Tarver wouldn’t be a big sell in England, so a fight between Tarver and Haye is a pipe dream.

Denis Lebedev: This is a very doable fight for Tarver in 2012, because Lebedev has already reportedly shown interest in facing him this year. Lebedev has been facing exclusively older fighters for the past year since losing to WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck by a controversial 12 round decision in December 2010. In 2011, Lebedev fought 42-year-old Roy Jones Jr. and 43-year-old James Toney, beating both of them. A fight between Lebedev and Tarver would seem right up Lebedev’s alley at this point. He appears to be taking on the old lions for money fights rather than clawing his way back to a title shot. Tarver would be perfect for him.

Krzsztof Wlodarczyk: This is another fight that Tarver can likely get in 2012, and he would have a very good chance of winning it as well. Wlodarczyk just fought Danny Green and stopped him in the 11th round last November. Tarver will likely have to wait for Wlodarczyk defend his WBC cruiserweight title against No.1 ranked contender Francisco Palacios before he gets to face him, though, and there’s no telling whether Wlodarczyk can beat Polacios in a rematch. He struggled to beat Polacios by a controversial 12 round split decision last year in a fight that was held in Wlodarczyk native Poland. I imagine Wlodarczyk can win another controversial decision against Polacios in Poland but it’s not something you can count on because Polacios appeared to beat him last time.

Of the four fighters on Tarver’s wish list, I see only Lebedev as a lock for him. Haye and Wladimir are not realistic options, although Tarver could get a fight against Wladimir in 2013. However, by then Tarver will be 44 and Wladimir will take a ton of flak for fighting someone that old. He might as well drag out the much better known 49-year-old Evander Holyfield if he’s interested in facing someone that old. Wlolarczyk is also a good possibility for Tarver in 2012, as long as he doesn’t beat in a rematch by Polacios.
