Price will be okay as long as Fury doesn’t hit him

Image: Price will be okay as long as Fury doesn't hit himBy Scott Gilfoid: I’ve been watching some of British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s recent fights and I think the guy has more than enough power to take David Price (12-0, 10 KO’s) out of there in a couple of rounds at best.

Fury’s got respectable power and a lot better overall skills that Price. Fury is more like Wladimir Klitschko with his excellent jab and foot movement. I don’t see why Fury shouldn’t defend his title against Price because I think he’s got the tools to beat this guy. He’s definitely going to be able to hit him with everything he throws because Price’s defensive skills are downright atrocious.

In comparison to the top British heavyweights, I rate Price last in defensive ability. Fury, David Haye and Dereck Chisora are much better on the defensive side of the game than Price, and the thing of it is, none of those guys were ex-Olympians like Price.

It goes to show you that being an Olympian is really overrated and doesn’t mean a whole heck of a lot of it you come into the pro game with glaring flaws like Price. Fury looks to have better all-around skills compared to Price and I can see why trainer Emanuel Steward is so high on Fury. He can do a lot of different things in the ring and seems to pick up stuff really quickly.

The progress that Fury made in his game between 2010 and 2011 was mind boggling. His jab, left hook, right hand, head movement and defensive skills are looking really good right now. And with Fury’s ability to circle the ring and jab on the move like Wladimir, he’s hard to hit cleanly.

Price needs a stationary target for him to land his right hand, which is really his only weapon. He’s got a left hook but it’s not a knockout a punch for him. It’s his right hand that does all that damage, but the guy has no jab and moves like Frankenstein in the ring. Fury is so much more advanced than Price and he’s five years younger than Price. That’s the weird part.

If I’m Fury, I’d take the fight with Price and box his ears off and then knock him out cold. I don’t think Price will be able the first looping right hand from Fury. I can see it going just like it did in Price’s knockout losses to Berman Stiverne and Roberto Cammarelle. Price will get hit and then stagger on his feet. Fury will then come in for the kill and blast him out with a flurry of clubbing right hands.
