Bute should have to prove himself against Dirrell instead of Froch

Image: Bute should have to prove himself against Dirrell instead of FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (29-0, 24 KO’s) would like nothing better than to be facing WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) next but Ward has already told Bute in firm language that he’s not going to be getting a fight handed to him based on the awful opposition that Bute has been matched against during the last three years while holding down the belt.

Ward said if Bute wants a fight with him, he’s got to face someone from 1st tier that can actually fight instead of the scrubs that Bute’s Canadian promoter has been steadily feeding him. But this is where things get kind of messed up.

Instead of Bute facing someone that’s looking good and has a great chance of beating him, Bute is trying to negotiate a two fight deal with Carl Froch. What the heck is that all about? Ward already told Bute that he’s been bottom feeding for too long and said he needs to fight Andre or Anthony Dirrell to prove himself.

So what does Bute do? He goes and looks to put a fight together with Froch, the guy that Ward just whipped last month in the Super Six tournament finals. So Bute is once again looking for easy feeding. I guess old habits die hard or something with that guy because Froch is the last guy that Bute should be fighting if he’s interested in proving himself.

I mean, it wasn’t even a struggle for Ward to beat Froch even with Ward having two fractured bones in his left hand. Ward whipped Froch with one hand and made it look easy. So now Bute is looking to get sloppy seconds against Froch in not one but two fights.

It’s not hard to guess why Bute wants the second fight. Ward told Bute to fight twice and knock off a couple of A level fighters to prove himself. I guess Bute took that to mean he could handpick one fighter – in this case a slow guy in Froch – and beat him twice and then come back to Ward claiming he got a couple of wins over an A fighter. I’m sorry but that’s not good enough.

If I’m Ward, I would tell Bute that Froch doesn’t count because of how badly he got spanked. Bute has got to beat someone better than Froch.

Here are the guys that Bute needs to beat in my view to get a shot at fighting Ward:

Andre Dirrell
Anthony Dirrell
Mikkel Kessler

I think all three of those fighters knock Bute out if he has the courage to face them. They’re too quick and they hit to hard, and Bute’s chin is completely weak.
