Image: Vitali to fight on 2/25, Chisora, Dimitrenko or Haye possibleBy Eric Thomas: WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko plans on getting back in the ring on February 25th next year according to German boxing news. The possible opponents for Vitali are as follows: Dereck Chisora, Alexander Dimitrenko or David Haye. Vitali recently offered Haye a fight for March of next year, sending him a proposal.

However, Haye still hasn’t said whether he’ll accept the fight or not. Haye obviously wants top dollar despite the fact that he was easily beaten last time he fought by Vitali’s younger brother Wladimir Klitschko last July. Haye no longer holds the WBA title and doesn’t have the bargaining power that he had previously. If Haye doesn’t accept Vitali’s offer, Vitali will go for either Chisora or Dimitrenko.

Chisora is coming off of a controversial 12 round decision loss to Robert Helenius last Saturday night in a fight where Chisora outworked, out-landed and out-boxed the tall 6’6 ½” Helenius but failed to get the decision. The fight took place in Helenius’ home country of Finland. Chisora wants a rematch but may have to wait until Helelnius first defends his new EBU heavyweight title against Dimitrenko.

As for Dimitrenko, he’s ranked #2 by the World Boxing Council and is coming off of an impressive win over journeyman Michael Sprott last September. The 6’7” Dimitrenko would make for an interesting opponent for the 6’7” Vitali due to the huge sizes of the two fighters. However, that’s about as far as it goes in terms of interest, because Dimitrenko wouldn’t stand a chance against Vitali. Dimitrenko lacks power and has a shaky chin.

Chisora might be the best fighter of that bunch. Although he doesn’t have Haye’s power or speed, he’s much more willing to mix it up and has a better chin. A fight between Vitali and Chisora would be an exciting fight of Chisora comes in shape like he did in his last fight.
