The 90 days in jail will make Mayweather a better fighter

Image: The 90 days in jail will make Mayweather a better fighterBy Chris Williams: If Manny Pacquiao’s loyal fans think that Floyd Mayweather’s 90 day jail sentence in early 2012 will hurt him as a fighter I think they’re going to be sadly mistaken when he comes out after serving his 90 days in excellent physical shape with his mind right and ready to resume his boxing career.

If anything, I see the 90 days making Mayweather a better fighter because it will limit all the distractions that he currently is dealing with in his life. He’s going to be isolated in his solitary cell with nothing but time for him to think, shadow box and do pushups.

This actually will sharpen Mayweather and get him even more ready for a 2012 mega fight with Pacquiao if the Filipino fighter’s promoter Bob Arum will allow him to fight Mayweather.

Judging by what’s occurred in the past, I don’t see the fight happening in 2012, 2013 or 2014. I don’t think Arum wants to lose his cash cow Pacquiao or have his earning power diminished by a one-sided 12 round decision loss to Mayweather.

Just like Arum won’t match his other fighters Miguel Cotto and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. up with Sergio Martinez, I see Arum continuing to keep Pacquiao away from a fight Mayweather for 2012. The only way I see a fight between them happening is if someone beats Mayweather bad of if he looks shot.

But Mayweather will lose anything by being in prison and will be ready take on someone good next year. I’d like to see Mayweather fight Lamont Peterson, Robert Guerrero, Andre Berto, Kell Brook or Amir Khan in 2012.

Depending on how Khan does in his rematch with Lamont Peterson, I think Khan should be the first fighter Mayweather faces next year. If Khan isn’t ready, Mayweather needs to go after the winner of the Andre Berto vs. Victor Ortiz fight.

I know it won’t be a good thing if Ortiz beats Berto, because Ortiz made a mess of things in his loss to Mayweather last September but he’s still good option.
