Cleverly is hoping that Froch will beat Ward and then move up to light heavyweight to challenge him for his World Boxing Organization strap.

Speaking with Sky Sports News, Cleverly said “I think he’ll [Froch] do it again. He’s mentally strong, he’s got power; Ward hasn’t got the power to trouble Carl. He’s got the speed and boxing ability but I don’t think he’s got the power.”

Cleverly is correct about Ward not being a huge puncher, but then again neither is Froch, who hasn’t had a knockout win over two years. Froch’s power is really overrated to be honest. He’s more of a guy with heavy hands than someone that has big power. Arthur Abraham, Andre Dirrell, and Glen Johnson are guys that you have to consider as the biggest punchers that took part in the Super Six tourney. Froch is probably right about the same level as Ward and Mikkel Kessler.

Cleverly is really itching for a fight against Froch, and says “Two British world champions. It would be a great fight for the British public…If it happens it’s going to be a great fight.”

I think it won’t be a great fight. Cleverly really isn’t on the same level as Froch. I’m not too high on either guys to tell you the truth, but Froch is definitely a couple levels better than Cleverly. We just saw Cleverly win a controversial decision against fringe contender Tony Bellew, who sometimes helps Froch with sparring. I see both Cleverly and Bellew about at the same level. Both are good serviceable contenders, but I don’t think Cleverly deserves to be holding the World Boxing Organization strap and I see him as little more than a paper champion at best. Froch kills this guy at half speed. Froch wouldn’t have to take it out of 1st gear to beat Cleverly.
