Image: Roger Mayweather: Peterson will beat Khan in the rematchBy William Mackay: Amir Khan and Golden Boy Promotions may want to consider the advice from trainer Roger Mayweather before they go looking to get a quick rematch against IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson. Mayweather thinks it’s a really bad idea for Khan to ever fight Peterson again, because he thinks it’s a bad style match-up for Khan and believes Peterson has too much talent for him.

Mayweather knows Peterson well, as he used to train him many years ago when he was a lot younger. And Mayweather says he knew Khan was going to have serious problems against Peterson after watching Peterson spar with his nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr. Peterson and Mayweather Jr. went back and forth in a sparring session that turned into a war that neither fighter won. Roger says he knew that Khan couldn’t beat Peterson when he remembered how well Peterson fought against Mayweather Jr.
Speaking with examiner.com, Mayweather said “That’s one of the reasons why I knew he would whoop Amir Khan. He sparred good with Floyd. He [Khan] ain’t going to beat Peterson. That guy got his number. That’s how it goes. Sometimes somebody has your number.”

Khan and his promoters seem to be recklessly moving forward for this rematch and making a huge mistake in doing so. It was a bad mistake for them to agree to fight Peterson in his home city of Washington, DC, and now they’re about to make an even bigger mistake of fighting him again instead of just licking their wounds, learning a lesson, and moving on.

You did notice that Khan never fought Breidis Prescott again after getting knocked out in the 1st round, and Khan never fought Marcos Maidana again after barely escaping with a 12 round decision after getting knocked silly by the hard hitting Argentinian. I think Khan should listen to Mayweather and move on rather than get beaten again and end up as just another contender.
