Peterson beat Khan by a 12 round decision last Saturday night in Washington, DC, the home city of Peterson. Now Peterson is willing to return the favor to Khan.

Speaking with RingTV, Peterson said “I wouldn’t mind doing it in England. The deal would have to be right. Everything would have to be right. But if it is, then I would do it.”

The chances of Peterson fighting Khan in England are likely quite low, because Golden Boy Promotions, Khan’s promoters, will likely try and have the fight take place in Las Vegas, Nevada in order to avoid any time delay problems with the fight. But there will still be a lot of hurdles to overcome before the fight can be made, such as the money split, ring size, gloves, and who the referee would be. Peterson doesn’t want to be a one hit wonder and lose his title after only one fight.

Peterson needs to make sure that the deck isn’t stacked against him with a referee installed that let’s Khan get away with fouling and/or a referee that prevents inside fighting.

One of the criticisms that Khan received for his fight against Marcos Maidana last December was the referee working the fight, Joe Cortez, seemed to control the fight in a specific way that favored Khan throughout and may have ultimately saved Khan from being knocked out in the 10th by allowing the fight to continue and stepping in to break the action when Maidana was working Khan over on the inside when he was badly hurt.

Peterson has to make sure that a referee that works the fight will allow him to work on the inside and also penalize fouling. If Khan is allowed to yank down on Peterson’s head of shove him constantly, it might make it very hard for Peterson to win under those circumstances.
