McCloskey to Khan: We didn’t get anywhere with our complaint, why should you?

Khan was docked two points in the fight for shoving Peterson and as it turns out that was enough to tip the close fight to Peterson.

Khan and his promoters from Golden Boy Promotions are now appealing the verdict in hopes of having it overturned or ruled a no decision with the IBF and WBA.

McCloskey, speaking on his twitter, starts off by quoting one of Khan’s complaints
Khan: “Pushing in the rule book is not a warning.”
McCloskey: “LOL! We got nowhere with our valid complaint – why should you?”

McCloskey lost a 6th round technical decision defeat to Khan last April in a fight where Khan clashed heads with McCloskey, opening a small cut over McCloskey’s left eye. The doctor quickly halted the fight rather than allowing McCloskey’s corner to try and halt the fight in between rounds. Barry Hearn, the promoter for McCloskey, was very upset with the stoppage and felt that Khan had intentionally head-butted McCloskey in a dirty move.

Hearn said he file a complaint with the British Boxing Board of Control about the hasty stoppage to see if he could get an immediate rematch. As you can tell by now, the complaint went nowhere and Khan didn’t have to give McCloskey a rematch. Now McCloskey sees it as Khan’s turn to be the one ignored in trying to appeal a decision.

McCloskey has fought once since the Khan loss, beating Breidis Prescott by a 12 round decision last September in a WBA light welterweight title eliminator bout. Thus far, McCloskey hasn’t gotten any bites for a fight against one of the WBA champions unfortunately. Marcos Maidana is the regular WBA champion, while Lamont Peterson is now the new WBA Super World light welterweight champion. Neither fighter has mentioned wanting to fight McCloskey.
