Image: Klitschko-Mormeck: Wladimir may have to carry Mormeck in this fightBy Jason Kim: IBF/WBA/WBA heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO’s) will likely be fighting in front of at least 50,000+ German fans on March 3rd against 39-year-old Jean Marco Mormeck (36-4, 22 KO’s) at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. That’s a lot of fans to be sitting and potentially watching a fight where Wladimir is doing all the pitching and Mormeck the catching with his head.

If the Germans like to see one-sided slaughters, then this fight will surely make them happy but if they’re anything like American fans, they’ll likely feel angry and ripped off for paying to watch this farce. The only I think fans will maybe get their monies worth is if Wladimir carries Mormeck into the later rounds by taking it easy on him.

It looked as if WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko did this with Albert Sosnowski with his 10th round TKO last year in May. Like Wladimir, Vitali was facing a guy that was badly overmatched, but instead of jumping on him and blasting him out in the 1st round, which I think Vitali easily could have done, he just pawed at Sosnowski for the first nine rounds, only occasionally landing anything meaningful. In the 10th, Vitali suddenly came alive and snowed Sosnowski under with power shots.

Wladimir may need to do something similar with Mormeck for this fight to be watchable, because Mormeck has looked worse than mediocre in his life and death battles and 2nd tier heavyweights Vinny Maddalone, Fres Oquendo and Timur Ibragimov. All three fights took place in Mormeck’s home country of France, and he won all three bouts with controversy.

I saw Mormeck losing all three fights, and that’s bad news if you were hoping that he would be competitive with Wladimir. The fight won’t be competitive and no matter how much Vitali and Wladimir try to pump up the boxing public to try and get them to take interest in the mismatch, it’s still going to be a slaughter at the end of the day.

I think there’s going to be 50,000 disappointed Germans on March 3rd unless Wladimir eases off and takes it easy on the short 5’10” Mormeck.
