Khan and his team took issue with the scorecards and how the referee took two points off from him for pushing off.

Khan says he’ll still give Peterson a rematch even if he wins the appeal rather than moving up to 147. Khan said to Reuters “Even if the result does get turned over, I would still give Lamont Peterson a deserved rematch.”

That sounds nice on the surface but really Khan has little choice but to fight Peterson again because of how bad Khan looked. He already ducked rematches with Breidis Prescott and Marcos Maidana, both of who gave Khan all kinds of problems.

Prescott knocked Khan out in one round, while Maidana has Khan badly hurt in the 10th and possibly was prevented from finishing him off by an over involved referee Joe Cortez, who broke up the action on the inside repeatedly when Maidana was trying to finish Khan off in the 10th, 11th and 12th rounds.

Khan can’t dodge Peterson, not after the way Khan looked. The fight itself was very close and it could have gone either way. But Khan hardly has a case to say he was ripped off by the referee and judges. Khan couldn’t prevent Peterson’s in fighting and had to resort to fouling to try and keep him off in the last six rounds of the fight. Khan fouled over and over again from the 7th until the 12th, and that cost him two points, which he feels he didn’t deserve losing.

Normally you think that Khan has little chance of winning an appeal. However, Khan’s promoters are Golden Boy Promotions and they recently had good luck with getting the loss for their fighter Bernard Hopkins turned from a 2nd round TKO to a “no contest” for his fight with Chad Dawson.
