Image: Khan: I know I can beat Lamont Peterson because I've got the style that people loveBy William Mackay: IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan faces challenger Lamont Peterson this Saturday night at the Convention Center in Washington, DC. Khan, 24, believes he’ll beat Peterson but the reason he gives is kind of an odd one, saying to the dailystar.co.uk “We’ve got Lamont Peterson to focus on. I know I can win because I’ve got the style that people love.”

Did Khan get dropped on his head before he opened his trap with that quote? Is Khan talking about the judges? That’s what he needs to be concerned with this Saturday night, not what people think. If you look at Khan’s fights, he throws a lot of flurries but misses most of his shots. I don’t think people love Khan’s style of fighting. He holds too much, runs too much, and often shoves his shorter opponents when they get close. Every time he fights, Khan breaks the rules by shoving, holding and clinching often. I don’t see him as being crowd pleasing at all. A fan friendly fighting style would belong to guys like Marcos Maidana and Manny Pacquiao, not to Khan. He’s more of the opposite, a frustrating fighter to watch because of his bad habits.

He also holds a lot, moves constantly and has a bad habit of grabbing his opponents by their necks to pull them forward so he can hit them. Khan leaves himself open when he’s throwing flurries and Peterson has already noticed that. He plans on taking advantage of Khan’s tendencies to throw sustained flurries by nailing him in between punches with speedy and hard shots.

Khan’s chin has already been exposed by Breidis Prescott and Marcos Maidana. All Peterson has to do is make sure he touches Khan as often as he can to test that glass chin and see if he can hurt him. If Peterson can stun Khan this Saturday night with one of shots, he can jump on him and finish him off before Khan has a chance to recover. Khan likes to hold, so Peterson has train on punching while being held. As long as he has two hands free, he can tag Khan.
