Kell Brook: Khan looked like a scared novice against Peterson

Image: Kell Brook: Khan looked like a scared novice against PetersonBy Jason Kim: Unbeaten Kell Brook hopes to look impressive tonight against the capable Luis Galarza on the undercard of the Carl Froch – Andre Ward fight in the United States. Above all, Brook doesn’t want to look awful like fellow Brit Amir Khan did in losing his IBF and WBA light welterweight titles to Lamont Peterson last Saturday night. Brook saw the fight and was thoroughly disgusted by what he saw from Khan.

Brook reportedly saw Khan as a frightened, out of control novice. Brook wants to make sure he doesn’t look anything like that tonight against Galarza because he can’t afford to look bad in his first appearance in front of American boxing fans.

Although the 25-year-old Brook is starting behind Khan in his appearance in front of American crowds. However, as long as Brook doesn’t run from Galarza or shove him around the ring, he should quickly catch up to where Khan is now and surpass him in popularity as long as Brook is matched against better opposition moving forward. At 25, he’s got to start facing better opposition if he really wants to impress U.S fans, and he can’t run like Khan or push off on his opponents. He’s got to be able to fight them and look good without fouling.

Brook sees a fight between him and Khan happening in the future one Khan moves up to the welterweight division. Brook may be kidding himself about that unless he looks really bad against Galarza or one of his other opponents. Khan has been strategically matched for the most part, and kept away from fighters that can punch. Brook has shown too much power in his past fights for him to be selected for a fight with Khan.

I can’t see it happening. Brook needs to ignore Khan and win a title and make his own name. Khan will likely be forgotten in the near future if he gets beaten again and/or continues to run around the ring fouling like he did against Peterson. He’ll implode on his own without the help of Brook. He doesn’t need Khan to be a star in the U.S, and the sooner his promoters realizes this the better.
