It’s clear: Timothy Bradley would whip Amir Khan

Image: It's clear: Timothy Bradley would whip Amir KhanBy Scott Gilfoid: What we learned more than anything last night from Amir Khan’s 12 round split decision loss to Lamont Peterson is that WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley would handle Khan without any problems if they were to fight.

I mean I knew this even before Peterson did a number on Khan, but now it’s all but academic that Bradley is the best fighter in the light welterweight division. Khan can’t handle pressure fighters and can’t fight a lick on the inside. Bradley may not be a huge puncher, but he’s an excellent inside fighter, even better than Peterson, who he easily beat two years ago.

Bradley won every round of a 12 round decision against Peterson in 2009. Peterson hasn’t improved since that fight as far as I can tell. The only thing different was that Peterson had a fighter in front of him last night in Khan who still has glaring defects despite having worked with trainer Freddie Roach for two years now. Khan looked like the same amateurish fighter that struggled against Marcos Maidana a year ago, making the same mistakes by covering up like a mummy and getting tagged. No improvement.

Khan just doesn’t know how to fight on the inside. If that had been Bradley in there with Khan last night instead of Peterson, it would have been murder. Bradley would have schooled Khan and likely taken him out with body shots. Khan wouldn’t have been able to get away with bending Bradley’s head around like he was doing with Peterson all night long. Bradley doesn’t play that. He would tag Khan in the gut and have him rolling around the ring in agony.
