Image: Froch needs to Knock Ward out to win in Atlantic City tonightBy Dallan O’ Donnell: As with all fights on foreign soil, the traveling fighter rarely has the outcome of the fight go his way. We have seen it recently in Germany when Martin Murray had a win taken away from him because he was the visiting fighter, fighting a hometown favourite.

There are reasons why traveling fighters don’t often get decisions. The crowd is, for me the biggest one. A home crowd will erupt into frenzy every time their fighter throws any kind of punch. This can often sway the scoring judge’s opinions at ringside as they can be sucked into the emotion of the night. However there have been cases where a fighter is so popular that the traveling support out ways the home crowd. Ricky Hatton was famed for it. Carl Froch has his Nottingham crowd at the ready to bring back those famous nights we have so missed when Hatton and his Army took over Las Vegas.

That been said, I still believe Froch needs to Knock Ward out tonight. Ward is unbeaten, and if it goes to points and it is in anyway close I can only see one outcome. Ward will not knock Froch out. Froch has a granite chin and will walk through Wards best shots. Froch has the ability and power to knock Ward out however. But another scenario would be Ward using his obvious hand speed advantage to keep Froch at bay and control the fight from range, hitting and moving immediately.

Froch has huge support to spur him on tonight. Ward is not the most liked fighter on the planet and despite this fight being in America, Carl could have a distinct advantage in terms of support. If I was to call this fight and stick my neck on the line, I would be inclined to say Froch will win. And by Knockout too. Ward has never faced anyone who hits as hard as Froch nor has he fought anyone who can walk through punches like Froch can. It won’t be an early stoppage. Froch usually starts slow. Ward will capitalize on that but he will be dragged into a war at some stage of this fight and that is Froch territory. Ward is an avid fan of using his head in close, but I wonder after the postponement of this fight due to a cut on ward whether or not he will use his head as much and would Froch be able to open a wound with his punches. Whatever does happen we won’t be short of atmosphere and drama. Expect this to be a great fight.
