Image: Chisora pushed to #15 spot in WBC rankingsBy Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (43-2, 40 KO’s) has been given the cover he needed in picking out 2nd tier heavyweight Dereck Chisora (15-2, 9 KO’s) to fight on February 18th at the Olympiahalle, in Munich, Germany. When the fight first announced, Chisora wasn’t even ranked in the top 15 and I was wondering how on earth the 40-year-old Vitali was getting away with fighting a non-top 15 ranked fighter.

But sure enough, the good old WBC came through and pushed Chisora to the #15 spot. Look for Chisora to creep all the way to #5 by the time the fight starts. I don’t know why the World Boxing Council pushes fighters up in their ranking after a fight has been signed. We saw this with WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fighting Peter Manfredo Jr not long ago.

Chisora, 27, has no chance in this fight and this is pitiful mismatch. I’d much rather see Vitali at least fighting someone that is coming off a victory rather than a loss like Chisora. He got beat in his last fight by Robert Helenius by a 12 round split decision, and I agree with the decision. Chisora didn’t do enough to get the win, and now he’s being rewarded for losing by fighting for a heavyweight title against Vitali.

What can you do when the WBC pumps up a fighter after a fight is signed but just sit and shake your head with complete disgust. I think Chisora is probably worthy of being a bottom feeder in the ranking, but I don’t like the idea of the WBC pushing him up after the fight has been signed. I just hope Chisora doesn’t get pushed up even further to make it seem more appealing than it really is. Chisora is going to get hammered into the canvas like a short rounded nailed by Vitali and that’s just the way it is.
