Image: Brook-Galarza this Saturday: Will Kell finally step it up after this?By William Mackay: Ranked #2 by the WBO, unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (25-0, 17 KO’s) fights for the first time in the United States this Saturday night against Luis Galarza (17-2, 13 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout on the undercard of the Super Six tournament clash between Andre Ward and Carl Froch.

The fight will be televised by Showtime in the U.S, and Brook’s fight against Galarza is expected to make it on TV. Maybe this is why Brook has been matched so softly, because he really needs to make a big impression with the American fans so that he can get off on the right foot at the start. Brook, 25, has been brought along about the same pace at WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr,, who is also 25.

Brook will clearly win on Saturday because Galarza isn’t much of a threat, but you can’t be too sure about anything because of Brook’s soft matchmaking in previous bouts. He’s had the training wheels on for seven solid years and its obviously stunted his growth as a fighter. For this reason you can’t really be sure what you’ll get from Brook.

He should win and move to the next level, at least that’s what his promoter has been saying. Brook is supposed to be stepping it up after this but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he continues to face 2nd tier opposition until he eventually gets a title shot against one of the champions. Brook may have to wait until Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather Jr. vacate or get stripped of their titles.
