Green, who had a large Australian crowd behind him, couldn’t do much to get through the solid defense of the 30-year-old Wlodarczyk. All the tricks that Green had used to beat a string of B level cruiserweights since his comeback in 2009 failed to work on the much more talented Wlodarczyk on Wednesday night.

Green had become used to bowling over soft opposition until his last fight against Antonio Tarver, and was stopped in the 9th round in that fight. Green tried to blast out Wlodarczyk early in the fight but found himself unable to get through the impregnable defense of the Polish fighter.

Part of the problem for Green is that Wlodarczyk was giving him nothing to work on. Wlodarczyk did little more than throw hard jabs through the first nine rounds of the fight and Green couldn’t land his power shots very often. It’s not that Green wasn’t trying, but being the shorter and slower fighter, Green just couldn’t get past Wlodarczyk guard.

In the 5th round, Green had some success when he charged Wlodarczyk and flurried on him, but missed most of the shots with the exception of a couple of rabbit shots to the back of the head.

Not much happened in the 6th. Green couldn’t land anything with Wlodarczyk blocking all of his punches. Finally Green did land a punch, a nice low blow that caused a halt in the action for Wlodarczyk to recover.

In the 7th and 8th, Green lost his mouthpiece in both rounds from hard jabs to the head. He was starting to tire now, his face turning record and the looked completely frustrated. Green was fighting very hard, but he just couldn’t get through the guard of the calm Wlodarczyk. The Polish fighter looked to be just waiting Green out, stalking him and pounding him with jabs but barely breathing. It was like Wlodarczyk was taking a nice stroll in the park and fighting off an exhausted jogger.
In the 9th, Green ate jab after jab to the head and face was a beet red from exhaustion.

Green’s nose was busted up in the 10th, and he bled everywhere. Green would grimace in pain each time Wlodarczyk connected with a jab to the head. It was clear that Green wasn’t going to last much longer.

Wlodarczyk hurt Green with a right hand in the 11th round that staggered Green and sent him back to the ropes briefly.

Wlodarczyk, however, was unable to follow up with anything because he kept missing with his power shots. But a few moments later, Wlodarczyk tagged Green with a nice left hook to the head that sent Green crashing to the canvas. Although a badly hurt Green was able to get back to his feet, the referee Michael Griffin halted the fight at 2:15 of the round.
