Image: Peterson to try and match Khan's workrate on December 10thBy William Mackay: Lamont Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KO’s) is well aware of the danger of being outworked by IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KO’s) on December 10th if he’s not focused in their fight at the Convention Center in Washington, DC.

Peterson, 27, knows that some judges are more into giving rounds for fighters that throw a lot of fast shots rather than guys that land the cleaner blows. This is why Peterson says he plans on trying to match Khan’s work rate in this fight rather than just looking to land the harder and cleaner landing shots.

I’m in agreement with Peterson. He can’t let Khan throw flurries at the end of the rounds to steal them or run around and pick spots where he can throw flurries like he did in his fight with Marcos Maidana. Peterson has to trap Khan, force him to fight when he doesn’t want to, and not let him steal the rounds with his judge-impressing flurries.

Peterson feels he has the better chin and the more durable body compared to Khan. It may come down to his chin as the deciding factor in this fight, because if he can land as many punches as Khan, it won’t matter if he’s not throwing the shots as fast him. The important thing will be that he’s able to take the punches without showing signs of being hurt.

I seriously doubt that Khan will be able to stay on his feet the whole 12 rounds if Peterson succeeds in matching Khan’s work rate. Khan’s chin is too much like glass for him to be able to take getting hit 200 times or more in the fight, especially if Peterson is connecting with power shots and not just jabs. Peterson isn’t a huge puncher, but he won’t need to be if he’s able to land enough of his punches on Khan’s weak chin. Peterson doesn’t think Khan has a weak chin, but he also recognizes that Khan’s chin isn’t good either.
