Olubamiwo pulls out of Chisora fight due to illness
By Sean McDaniel: Dereck Chisora’s comeback fight on Saturday against Larry Olubamiwo is off due to an illness of Olubamiwo. Chisora really needed this fight as he’s been out of action since losing to Tyson Fury last July. It’s unclear if a replacement can be found for Chisora so that he can remain on the card, which is headed by the Michael Katsidis vs. Ricky Burns fight.
Olubamiwo said on his facebook “I am really ill and so won’t be able to fight on Saturday. I am really disappointed as I was looking forward to coming back but want to thank everyone for their support and will be back as soon as I am better.”
Things haven’t exactly gone well for 27-year-old Chisora, as he’s lost out on two fights against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko due to injuries sustained by the Ukrainian, as well as Chisora’s one-sided loss to Fury. And now this – the Olubamiwo illness. Hopefully a replacement can be found in time for Saturday. However, you can’t expect much at this late stage. At best, Chisora will likely be facing an obscure 2nd tier opponent. That’s good for him because he’ll surely win but bad for fans who were hoping to see Chisora in a competitive fight.
