Image: Khan offers 70/30 split to Bradley: In other words, he doesn’t want the fightBy William Mackay: IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan basically rejected the notion of fighting WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley by saying he’ll fight him if he’s willing to accept a 70-30 split with Bradley taking the small end.

This is a dramatic departure from the 50-50 offer Khan had made when Bradley was embroiled with legal problems with his promoters and sitting on the shelf.

Khan said this on his twitter: “It took Bradley six months to find his voice after calling me out to fight me, and now he’s asking for a 50-50 split for 2012? He had his chance for a 50-50 split including the UK income, and I’m going to stick to my words – He’s never gonna get that offer again. Bradley denied me the chance of becoming undisputed champion and I’m gonna make him regret it. He needs me now. I’m the bigger draw. All he is worth is 70/30 split and that’s my favour with no UK split.”

There it is. Khan sounds more than a little childish to me the way he’s taking a self-defeating stance. No way will Bradley accept the 70-30 offer and no UK split. As such, we’ve got Khan basically ducking the Bradley fight. I guess Khan can go back to fighting Paul McCloskey again after Khan faces the light hitting Lamont Peterson on December 10th. Khan says he wants to move up to welterweight in 2012 to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. Khan may in fact move up to welterweight, but he’s not getting the Mayweather fight. That’s a pipe dream. Mayweather only fights established guys and Khan still isn’t well known enough for him to waste his time on.

Bradley said he’d be willing to fight Khan next after Bradley takes care of 40-year-old Joel Casamayor on November 12th on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas. However, Bradley also could wind up facing Pacquiao next, although that’s probably not going to happen. Bradley needs one or two big fights in order for a Pacquiao-Bradley fight to be a huge money maker. That’s where Khan comes in. He’d be the perfect opponent for Bradley to pick up a couple more belts while at the same time beating the highly hyped Khan.

Khan is fighting Peterson, a guy that Bradley already easily beat two years ago. Khan could have opted to fight a rematch with Marcos Maidana but chose instead the light hitting Peterson.
