How would Ricky Burns have done against Adrien Broner last Saturday?

Image: How would Ricky Burns have done against Adrien Broner last Saturday?By Scott Gilfoid: We already know that Vincente Martin Rodriguez was way over his head against the talented Adrien Broner (22-0, 17 KO’s) last Saturday night in an easy 3rd round TKO win for Broner to capture the vacant WBO super featherweight title.

But now I’m kind of curious how former WBO super featherweight and now current WBO interim lightweight champion Ricky Burns (33-2, 9 KO’s) would have done had he been the one facing Broner instead of Rodriguez. After all, Burns is the one that decided to give up his WBO super featherweight title just when he’s on the verge of fighting Broner.

This was supposed to be Broner vs. Burns until Burns backed out, saying he was having problems making the weight for the division. I think it was a smart move by Burns, and by the way, I’m not buying for a second. I see it a duck job Burns. Broner was the number #1 contender and Burns was finally about to have to fight someone actually good for a change, and instead of taking the fight, he moved up in weight.

But let’s pretend for a second that Burns DID take the fight with Broner. How do think he would do? I don’t care about weight. Burns could come into the fight as a welterweight for all I care. I’m just curious how Burns would do. My take is Burns would have taken a beating of his life, and would be thrashed beyond belief. I don’t think Broner would get the chance of actually stopping Burns because I can see a white towel being thrown in when the fight became too one-sided.

Needless to say, Burns would be taken apart by Broner. The thing is Burns has bought himself some time by moving up to the lightweight division, but not much time though. Broner is already talking about moving up in weight to the lightweight division. What will Burns do then? Vacate his interim title? That’d be funny, giving up an interim title rather than facing Broner.

I’d like to think that Burns would take the fight with Broner and go out on his shield but all I have to go on is the past, and in the past, Burns vacated his title and had a weight excuse. Would Burns come up with another weight excuse not to fight Broner. Gosh, I hope not. It would be sad to see.

If Burns did take the fight with Broner, I think it would be over within three rounds tops. Burns would is so hittable and Broner, with his big power, would be teeing off left and right. Burns’ head would spinning like it was on a swivel. Broner would likely connect with one of his big uppercuts and Burns would be staggering around like a sailor on a Saturday night coming out of a bar. That’s when I see the towel thrown in to save Burns. That’s how I see it. I hope Burns takes the fight when Broner moves up in weight, but I just don’t know.
