This is a pretty important break though for the two fighters, as it was thought that Haye was finished with boxing for good after his recent retirement last month. Haye had been hoping that Vitali would say the word before his retirement in order to get squeeze in the bout before Haye hung up the gloves. However, Vitali instead chose to let Haye suffer by not agreeing to the fight at that time. But it looks like Vitali and his management have changed their mind about the Haye fight and are actively seeking it out.

Haye, 31, lost his last fight to Vitali’s younger brother IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko last July in a one-sided loss for Haye.

Vitali, 40, last fought on September 10th, defeating Tomasz Adamek by a 10th round TKO in Poland. It was an embarrassingly easy win for the Ukrainian. It’s not surprising that Vitali won because few boxing fans ever gave the short 6’1″ Adamek any change whosoever. For Vitali, that was his eleventh straight win dating back to his loss to Lennox Lewis eight years ago in 2003. Vitali has improved a lot since then and is nearly unbeatable.

Haye would figure to have little chance against the bigger Vitali. Although Haye has excellent power, mobility and defensive skills, his lack of size and fragile chin would seem to be a real problem for Haye against a big powerful fighter like Vitali.
