What next for Jackiewicz?

Image: What next for Jackiewicz?By Scott Gilfoid: Rafal Jackiewicz (38-10-1, 19 KO’s) looked like he was just getting warmed up last Saturday night against unbeaten Kell Brook (25-0, 17 KO’s) when the referee Howard John Foster pulled the plug on the fight and halted it at the 2:36 point of the 6th round with Jackiewicz still with a lot of fight left in him.

Moments before the stoppage, the 34-year-old Jackiewicz had landed a scorching right hand that snapped Brook’s head back in what easily the best punch of the fight. Jackiewicz wasn’t throwing a lot of shots, but he was making his punches count and appeared to be adopting a strategy where he was letting Brook expend all of his energy in order to pounce on him later in the fight.

Sadly, the referee ruined Jackiewicz’s hopes of a comeback when he stopped the fight at the halfway point. All I can say is Jackiewicz agreed to fight the bout in Brook’s home country of the UK, and when you go over there you go to really put the fight on your British opponent or you could see the fight stopped early.

It’s one of those countries where the referees don’t like to leave a guy out there if it looks a tad one-sided. Jackiewicz was in no danger of getting hurt as far as I can tell and looked great with his beautiful right hands that he kept pegging Brook with from time to time.

So where does Jackiewicz go from here? This isn’t the end for him. Jackiewicz has only lost two fights out of his last four and those losses have come against Jan Zaveck, the IBF welterweight champion, and Brook. Nothing to be ashamed of. My advice would be for Jackiewicz some of the lower top 15 contenders like Matthew Hatton, Paulie Malignaggi, Shawn Porter and Luis Carlos Abregu and get healthy picking up one or two wins against them before looking for another title shot in the future.
