Salita and Hatton battle outside the ring
By Ian Aldous: There is a battle currently raging outside the ropes as to who will be the next opponent of interim WBA World welterweight champion, Ismael El Massoudi (36-3). The dispute is between two former World title challengers, Dmitriy Salita (33-1-1) and Matthew Hatton (42-5-2).
Dmitriy recently contacted myself with the details of the dispute. Dmitriy started by declaring “I have a signed contract with the promoter of Ismael El Massoudi.” Sounds simple doesn’t it? Well, it appears that Matthew Hatton and Hatton Promotions also want a shot at the interim WBA champion and might not wait their turn. According to Dmitriy, “M. Hatton is saying that he is finalizing a fight against the same guy for the same title. The real story is that Hatton tried to make a deal with Massoudis promoter but they couldn’t come to an agreement. Hatton stepped over the promoter and started negotiating directly with the fighter.” So, Dmitriy has decided to take action and has “sent numerous cease and desist letters to Hatton Promotions”.
Dmitriy went on to say “I have respect for Ricky Hatton as a boxer. But this is outrageous. I plan on enforcing my contract and making the WBA World title fight happen.”
Obviously, there are two sides to every story and I’m sure Hatton Promotions will have their own views on this particular subject. I’m just putting across the side of Dmitriy and his promotional team.
