Associated Press quoted former World Boxing Council (WBC) and WBA cruiserweight champion Mormeck at a news conference to promote the fight saying:

“I want his belts, if I want to get them, I’ll have to smash his face.”

“I’ve seen all his opponents, and when they get in the ring, I get the impression they don’t do what they need to do. They don’t move forward. They don’t take any risk.”

“He has lost three fights and each time he lost them without going the distance. He couldn’t recover each time he got hit. That means he doesn’t take those hits well.”

Mormeck told Klitschko at the news conference:

“I’ve already seen you in bad shape quite a few times. Vladimir has a glass chin that I will break.”

“It’s the biggest challenge of my career. I’d like to become the first heavyweight champion from France.

Mormeck at 5”10” and 215 pounds will have to cope with a tremendous size differential against Klitschko, who is 6’6” and weighs 245 pounds.

Wladimir, borrowing from Joe Louis’s famous quote told Mormeck:

“Everybody has a plan until he gets hit.”

“So you got a plan and then your getting hit. Then the whole plan is just screwed up. So you can’t really follow the plan.”

“I can imagine what kind of game plan you could have for this fight. Boxing is a chess game. I am definitely going to fight you, play chess with you in the ring and eventually make a checkmate.”

Wladimir said that he was not taking Jean-Marc lightly and respects his power. Mormeck was able to knock David Haye down before being KO’d himself in their match in 2007, something Klitschko was unable to do.

Mormeck will be trained by former Mike Tyson trainer Kevin Rooney for the Klitschko fight. Jean-Marc has won three fights in a row since moving up to the heavyweight ranks.

Wladimir has not been defeated since his KO loss at the hands of Lamon Brewster in 2004. Klitschko had an epiphany after losing to Brewster, when even his brother Vitali suggested that it may be a good idea for him to hang up the gloves. Since taking on Emmanuel Steward however, Wladimir has been virtually unbeatable becoming a dominant heavyweight champion in the process.
