Margarito, 33, is hoping to recapture the form he had when he blasted Cotto out in the 11th round three years ago in 2008. That was the high point of Margarito’s career and it’s been pretty much all down hill since that time unfortunately for him with two losses to Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao. Margarito has lost two of three fights since the Cotto victory and looked nothing like the punching machine he was back then. Cotto has won four out of his last five fights, albeit against mostly beatable opposition and not really dangerous opposition apart from Pacquiao, who easily beat Cotto by a 12th round TKO in November 2009.

Cotto, 30, especially wants to win this fight to prove to boxing fans that he’s the better fighter, but beating Margarito right now won’t prove a whole lot because he appears to have slipped a couple of notched since their last fight three years ago. Cotto has found much better success, winning

If Margarito can put pressure on Cotto and make him run like he did last time, Margarito will then have a good chance of wearing him down. Cotto doesn’t have the stamina to run for 12 rounds, and he’ll only weaken himself if he tries to run like that. He can’t do it and that’s going to be an issue if he doesn’t stand and fight Margarito this time.
