If Golden Boy succeeds, Hopkins will get his title back without having to fight Dawson again.

Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy, told Ringtv “I talked to Jose Sulaiman, and he said that they are going to review it…This guy [Dawson] may have gotten the decision, but I will fight for Bernard to keep the belts.”

Besides speaking to Sulaiman, Schaefer is also going to appeal the 2nd round TKO verdict to the California State Athletic Commission this week. With any luck, Schaefer should be able to get Hopkins title back from one of those two organizations. However, getting the title back won’t erase the fact that Hopkins didn’t look exactly good against Dawson during the brief two rounds of action and the ending where Hopkins hurt his left shoulder after being bucked off the back of Dawson, left a lot of paying boxing fans livid.

The Hopkins-Dawson PPV card went for $54.95, and there wasn’t a lot of interesting fights on the card other than the Jorge Linares vs. Antonio DeMarco fight. The Paulie Malignaggi vs. Orlando Lora was a mismatch, and the Danny Garia vs. Kendall Holt fight was sloppy and not an especially exciting fight.

Schaefer may get Hopkins’ title back, but he’s probably not going to be seen as the legit champion until he fights Dawson again and proves he’s better than him. Will that happen? Probably not unless Golden Boy makes it worthwhile financially for Dawson to accept a rematch.
