Image: Froch sees delay in Ward fight as an advantageBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KO’s) has had to wait a little while longer for his Super Six tournament finals bout against WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO’s) after Ward suffered a cut during sparring.

The fight, which was originally scheduled to take place on October 29th, will now be happening on December 17th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It’s rarely a good thing for fighters to have to wait longer for a fight to happen, but Froch is putting a spin on this delay, seeing it as a benefit.

Froch told the Times “It could work out to my advantage because now I get [trainer] Rob [McCracken] for the whole camp.”

Here’s my take on this spin: While it’s nice that Froch can be with his old trusty trainer for the entire camp the fact of the matter is McCracken isn’t the one that’s going to be taking the head and body shots from the talented Ward on December 17th. McCracken can’t hold Froch’s hand in this fight and he won’t be able to lead the interference to keep Ward off of him. Froch is pretty much doomed in this fight to get spanked and spanked badly against a much better fighter in Ward. At this point it doesn’t matter who Froch’s trainer is.

I’m sure that if it were possible to resurrect all the greatest trainers of all time from their graves and have them all train Froch for this fight, he’d still end up losing badly to the much better skilled Ward. It just doesn’t matter who trains Froch. When you’re dealing with a fighter with a superb boxing brain like Ward, and with physical tools that fighters would die to have you’re pretty much fated to lose. That’s just the way it is.
