Image: Adrien Broner slams Burns for ducking himBy Scott Gilfoid: The talented number #1 WBO super featherweight contender Adrien Broner (21-0, 17 KO’s) was disgusted recently when former WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns decided to vacate his World Boxing Organization title rather than face Broner and likely get knocked out by the young budding superstar.

This would have been Burns’s first big title defense of his WBO belt after facing three consecutive easy title defenses against weak fringe contenders.

This is what Broner had to say about Burns in a rant on YouTube: “We had a mandatory fight for the WBO title. You [Burns] vacated the title taking about you couldn’t make the weight no more. But you just fought four times and defended this title. But everyone knows boxing is a game where you can duck fighters and I guess he felt like running away was best for his career, so I don’t blame him because you know any day he couldn’t beat me on my worst day…Hopefully, he beats [Michael] Katsidis and we’ll meet soon down the line.”

I totally agree with you Mr. Broner. It’s so sad that Burns decided to vacate his title rather than take his medicine and face you. But I guess it’s easier to move up in weight and face Katsidis, a beatable fighter, than it is to take on the future star of the super featherweight division and the next Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the making.

Broner also had some less than pleasant things to say about Hank Lundy and Eloy Perez, a couple of possibilities for his next fight on November 26th. Broner is open to facing either of those guys, but warns both of them that they’re going to get beaten if they take the fight. Once again, I totally agree. Lundy and Perez stand no chance and are just fodder opponents. The only guy that can give Broner any problems at this weight is Yuriorkis Gamboa, and even he’s too small to do anything with Broner.
