Image: Ricky Burns vs. Michael Katsidis: Burns has the chance to emulate Scotland’s greatest boxers!By Danny Burns: Ricky Burns (32-2, 9 KO’s) has the chance to become a two weight world champion when he steps into the ring against hard hitting Australian Michael Katsidis (28-4, 23 KO’s), for the vacant W.B.O lightweight championship of the world, on the 12th November at the Kelvin hall in Glasgow, Scotland.

Burns has recently vacated his W.B.O super featherweight world title due to the increasing displeasure of trying to make the super featherweight limit. He has recently turned down a lucrative contract to fight the unbeaten American Adrian Broner (21-0, 17KO’s) in the states due to the weight problems. But now Burns is on the verge of emulating Scotland’s greatest boxers by becoming a two weight world champion and making a nation proud of there countryman once again.

Under no circumstances is this going to be an easy fight for Ricky Burns. Katsidis has fought at the highest level at the lightweight limit and has only been beaten by the best. He has had the pleasure of sharing the ring with the great Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KO’s) and even put the Mexican on the canvas in an outstanding fight in Las Vegas, Nevada. Katsidis is well known in Britain and recently destroyed Kevin Mitchell (32-1, 24 KO’s) inside three rounds at Upton park soccer stadium, London. Katsidis has gained respect throughout the boxing world because of his hard hitting, come forward style.

Ricky Burns Is stepping up in weight for the first time to try and claim his second world title. Burns was a big super featherweight and I don’t believe he will struggle at the lightweight limit. He has let it been known, he is wanting the best fights out there and unfortunately with not being able to make the super featherweight limit no longer, he is unable to take the fight in the States against Broner. Me personally being a Scotsman, I would have loved for Burns to be able to go over to the States and show piece his skills and get his profile up over there and im certain he would have been able to pull off the win.

For Burns to win this fight, he must stick to his boxing ability. Burns has a great boxing brain and is a quick thinker when he’s in the ring. He should also use his speed and try and catch Katsidis when he comes forward. There’s no doubt that Katsidis will walk onto Burns’s shots all night long. Burns must keep his cool in there and not mix it to much with Katsidis. Katsidis has a very good knockout rate and as we all know in boxing, one punch can change the course of the fight.

I rate Burns’s chances of pulling off a victory very high. I will be there once again as I was there when he broke the heart of Roman “Rocky” Martinez (24-1-1, 15 KO’s) and who knows if Burns manages to get through Katsidis which im sure he will, he might get his chance to fight in the states once again and chase his American Dream.

Good luck to both boxers.

Stay tuned for more…
